Welcome to The Water is Wide - a place for meanderings and reflections.
Based in London on the banks of the River Lea, I’m a passionate advocate for rivers. Witnessing a mass fish kill outside my home led me to become a founding Trustee and Chair of the London Waterkeeper charity - part of the global Waterkeeper movement dedicated to protecting rivers and waterways around the world.
My local wanderings have taken me along many of London’s Long Distance Trails - including the London Thames Path, the Capital Ring, the London Loop, the Thames Estuary Path, the New River Path, and of course the Lea Valley Walk.
As a qualified Lowland Leader, I’m now working towards my Mountain Leader award. Few things compare to boarding the sleeper train at Euston, and waking up in the rugged grandeur of the Scottish Highlands. I’ve also hiked and camped widely in the wild landscapes of the western USA.
